Nike officially unveiled the 2014 Doernbecher Collection introducing the Air Jordan 8 Doernbecher. Get the story behind the shoe and release details below.
This year’s designer for the Air Jordan series is Caden Lampert. He was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, which is a life-threatening autoimmune disease that affects the body’s immune system as it begins to attack the body itself. There’s no doubt that the young man went through some hardships but the great news is that he is currently recovering from the disease.
Caden’s decision to design the Air Jordan 8 Doernbecher reflects his burning passion for the game of basketball, complete with flames on the outsole and his own basketball jersey number, 14, on the custom glow-in-the-dark, speckled upper design. A boom box on the inside of one tongue shares his love of music, while the other bears the name of his brother Ryland, who battled childhood cancer. And there’s also a special shout-out to both of his brothers Blake and Ryland, on the foot straps.
The Air Jordan 8 Doernbecher release date is officially set for Sunday, November 23, 2014 and will be available through select retailers like Nike.com.
